About HES Food Service

Students can either bring lunch from home, or buy a lunch. Lunch includes the entrée, one milk and hand fruit.  Additional drinks and snacks can also be purchased a la carte. At Hurlbutt, snacks are offered twice a week.

WPS Culinary Services Details

Students use charge accounts or cash to pay for lunch. There are many advantages to using the charge account. All children are able to move quickly through the lunch lines, and it makes our lunch program operate more efficiently and effectively. At Hurlbutt Elementary students are given swipe cards, which are stored in the cafeteria and reprinted if they are lost. You may fund these charge accounts by either sending a check to school with your child (made payable to “Weston School Lunch program”) or by using MySchoolBucks.

WPS Culinary Services Account Policies

If a student has a negative balance in their lunch account, they will still be offered a complete lunch (please see the Negative Balance Policy for more details). They will NOT be able to purchase any extra a la carte drinks or snacks.

At the end of the current school year, your child’s ending account balance becomes their opening balance for the following school year.

If your child is leaving the Weston Public Schools and their account balance is $20 or more, you will be entitled to a refund. Please contact the Food Services office at 203-221-6576 to discuss your options.

MySchoolBucks Service

The Weston Public Schools have enrolled in an internet-based service called MySchoolBucks. This service is a website where you can pay for your child(ren)s school food services using your Visa, MasterCard, Discover or Checking account. Participation in this service is recommended, but voluntary and you may enroll at any time.  Please note that there is a $2.49 convenience fee charged per transaction, per student.

MySchoolBucks enables parents to keep track of their child’s account balance. In addition, the website offers Automatic Replenish when the student’s account balance goes below a specified amount. Using “automatic replenish on low balance”, the student will never run out of money. Conversely, your credit card will not be charged until the student’s balance goes below the specified dollar amount. Balances are checked each evening and accounts are replenished before morning.

MySchoolBucks also enables you to view your student’s participation report, which means you can monitor your child’s spending and see exactly what they’re eating each day.

Please visit to set up your child’s account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I park when I visit Hurlbutt?

There is a large parking lot at the front entrance to the school.  Please be aware that there are several spaces reserved for Weston Senior Center, which is housed in South House.  These spaces must be available to our seniors on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., but you are free to use them at all other times.  There is also a smaller parking area near the entrance to the bus loop in back of the school. A note of caution:  the Weston police occasionally monitor our school and issue tickets for illegally parking in handicap spaces, fire lanes and areas that are not designated as parking spaces.

If there is a delayed opening, what time does school start, and what time are students released if there is an early dismissal?

Usually school starts 2 hours later than usual if there is a delayed opening.  This means that Hurlbutt Elementary School begins at 10:30 a.m.  Keep in mind that bus pick-up times are 2 hours later, too. If necessary, the superintendent may adjust the delayed opening time.  An email blast will be sent to alert you to this possibility.  Hurlbutt is dismissed at 12:35 p.m. in the event of an early closing due to dangerous weather or conference days.  Once again, if necessary, the superintendent may alter this time and you will be notified by email blast.

When I visit Hurlbutt do I need to sign in?

Yes.  When you arrive, please stop at the security desk to sign in and get a visitor’s badge.  You will need to have a photo ID to show to the security personnel.  You must sign-out when your visit is done.

Can children be dropped off early in the morning?

Children can be dropped off at school no earlier than 8:15 a.m. (10:15 a.m. on delayed opening days) unless they are involved in a before-school program.  Before this time the school staff are involved in meetings and preparations for the day, and are not available to supervise.

What if our bus is very late either in the morning or the afternoon?

Please call Ms. Dietzman at the Weston bus garage at 203- 454-1984.
