A Message from the Superintendent

October 18, 2024

Dear Families:

On Monday, October 21, our administrators will present the WPS District Improvement Plan for 2024-25.  I invite you to attend the meeting, which begins at 7 PM.  The meeting information can be found on our district calendar. The district improvement plan and school improvement plans are posted here on the district website, and I encourage you to read them.

At that time, we will present goals in the areas of academics and teaching and learning, school climate and culture, human resources, safety and security, and campus infrastructure planning.  In addition, the principals will present their plans at upcoming school PTO meetings this fall.

As a follow up to my October 11 communication regarding the incident at Weston High School in which a swastika symbol was etched on the locker of a Jewish student-athlete, I wish to reiterate that hate-based conduct will not be tolerated in any form. Every student and staff member deserves to feel connected, supported and valued.  The high school administration continues to work through this investigation, and WHS Principal Ms. Conetta will communicate additional information to our high school community next week.

As a learning community, we are committed to reviewing our current programs to ensure they effectively promote an understanding as to why hate based behavior is offensive.  Thank you for your support and understanding as it is our collective responsibility to ensure that our schools remain respectful and nurturing spaces for our students to learn and grow.

Sincerely,

Lisa Barbiero

Superintendent of Schools
