PowerSchool Cybersecurity Incident

Posted Date: 01/09/2025

Dear Weston Families,

I am writing to inform you of a cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, our Student Information System (SIS). On Tuesday, January 7, we were notified by PowerSchool that on December 28, 2024, there was unauthorized access to certain data through their customer support platform, and that Weston’s data was included in the breach, along with many other school districts around the state.

PowerSchool has assured us that the breach is contained, and the credentials that were compromised have been deactivated. They do not anticipate the data being shared or made public, and they believe the data has been deleted and that no additional copies exist.

In the coming days, PowerSchool will provide further updates. We take the privacy and security of our students, staff, and families very seriously. We are closely monitoring PowerSchool’s response and holding them accountable to their commitments of transparency and security.

If  you have any immediate concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Director of Digital Learning, Dan DiVito either by email danieldivito@westonps.org, or via phone 203-221-6567. We are committed to keeping you informed and will provide updates as we learn more.

Thank you for your understanding and partnership as we work through this together.

Sincerely,
LB Signature
