Important Message Regarding WHS

Posted Date: 01/23/2025

January 23, 2025

Dear WPS Families,

The purpose of this email is to inform you about an important development regarding Weston High School. The high school will have an early dismissal today due to an unsubstantiated threat (please see email below).  Please rest assured that all other schools in our district are safe and will remain in session as usual.

Your child’s safety is our top priority. We are working closely with the Weston Police Department and neighboring law enforcement agencies to monitor and address the situation. The safety measures in place are precautionary, and we will continue to collaborate with law enforcement to ensure the wellbeing of all students and staff.

It is important for Weston High School parents to follow the specific instructions provided in the letter below regarding the early dismissal process. Clear communication and adherence to these instructions will help ensure a smooth and secure dismissal for all high school students.

"Dear WPS Families,

Due to an unsubstantiated threat on social media and in coordination with our police department officials we have entered into a secure school and are enacting our evacuation protocols to ensure the safety of all students and staff. We are evacuating to Weston Middle School. We are initiating an early release. Students driving personal vehicles will be dismissed from our evacuation sight, Weston Middle School. All other students will be transported home via school bus to their residence. Please do not pick up your students at this time. School Road must remain passable for coordinating supports and services. Dismissal will begin at approximately 11:30 for high school students from the middle school.

Other schools in the district will continue in session as normal. This threat is specific to the high school building and is unsubstantiated at this time. We do not believe their are any other issues on the school campus. We will communicate updates as soon as possible as we know more and are able.

Kindly, Meghan"

We will keep you updated with any new information as it becomes available. In the meantime, please know that we are taking every necessary step to safeguard our school community.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Lisa Barbiero, Superintendent of Schools
