Dear Weston Families,
Last week, we informed you that Superintendent Barbiero is on a medical leave of absence for the remainder of the school year and will be retiring in June. We are pleased to announce that the Board has unanimously voted to appoint Deborah Low as Acting Superintendent, effective March 28 through June 30, as we continue our search for a new Superintendent.
We are extremely fortunate to have Ms. Low join our school district’s excellent leadership team during this important transition period. In addition to being a Weston resident since 2022, Ms. Low’s experience as an educational leader in Connecticut (and specifically Fairfield County) runs deep. Ms. Low served as the Superintendent of Schools for the Ridgefield Public Schools from 2007 until her retirement in 2015. Prior to that, Ms. Low held multiple administrator positions in the Wilton Public Schools between 1987 and 2007, including serving as Principal of Wilton High School from 1998 to 2004 and Assistant Superintendent for the Wilton Public Schools from 2004 to 2007. In 2017, Ms. Low was elected to the Wilton Board of Education and served as Board Chair from 2019 until she moved to Weston in 2022. Ms. Low is highly respected in her field, and has served on the Executive Board of the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents (CAPSS) and as President of the Southern Fairfield County Superintendent group for CAPSS.
Ms. Low’s depth and breadth of experience, community ties, and demonstrated ability to lead school districts through challenging circumstances will serve our school community well as we continue our important work. We are confident that Ms. Low will guide the district through a successful end of the school year while collaborating with us to address the recent incidents of antisemitism.
Please join us in welcoming Ms. Low to the Weston Public Schools. We look forward to having you meet her.
Sincerely,
Steven Ezzes
Chairman, Weston Board of Education
