Dear Weston school community,
It is important for you to know that another antisemitic incident occurred late yesterday. Specifically, a student drew a swastika in a notebook during class. Below is the message Principal Doak sent to WMS families and staff earlier today regarding a swastika drawn by a student in a notebook.
Dear Weston Middle School Families and Staff,
It is with deep regret that I inform you of another antisemitic incident at Weston Middle School. On Thursday, April 10, a student drew a swastika in a notebook during class.
We are grateful to the students who witnessed the drawing of the swastika and then immediately reported it to a trusted adult. Their actions reflect the values we strive to instill in all of our students: courage, responsibility, and care for one another.
The administration responded swiftly, investigated thoroughly and has taken appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with our district’s policies and procedures.
Again, please remember that Weston Middle School is committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students and staff. As you may remember, we are working closely with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) to launch the No Place for Hate program. Training will begin in May. We will continue to address antisemitism and other incidents of hate with seriousness and urgency.
Sincerely,
Daniel Doak
Principal
I join Principal Doak in commending our students who witnessed and reported the incident immediately. This situation underscores the urgent need for our students to learn more about antisemitism and its impact. I hope you received my Superintendent’s Update yesterday which included some of our next steps. Spring break is next week; let’s return refreshed and ready to take up the challenge together as a community.
Thank you,
Deborah Low
